  On The Road: The Dutch Frontier - Windmills, Bicycles, Decks and Questionable Places

  Based on the true story of the first female conductor of an orchestra, who also happens to be of Dutch ancestry.

  As a biopic, the film adheres to many of the genre's conventions, as do many films with a feminist theme or focus, with many of the same hurdles and "villains" that are treated in a manner that lacks nuance and most of the "bad guys" are played in sometimes in a rather cartoonish way.   Leider eine Schmonzette mit Taktstock

  Gerne hätte ich etwas mehr über die musikalischen Qualitäten der Dirigentin und ihrer Zeitgenossen im Orchesterbetrieb erfahren.
  Bekommen habe ich in Überlänge ihre Herkunft (adoptiert), ihr Liebesleben auf Telenovela-Niveau und die erstaunlich unspektakuläre Erkenntnis, daß Frauen in den 1930er Jahren stark benachteiligt wurden (buhu!).
  Thematisch hoch interessant - im Ergebnis leider flach und mit null Erkenntnisgewinn. Schade.

  Feminism has come to the Netherlands! More specifically it has come to Dutch cinema but unfortunately, it has arrived in the most basic, cookie cutter form it could come in. I think I speak for any reasonable (Dutch) cinephile if I say it is time this Nederwood-wave of filmmaking takes a halt and true artists get their due. Oh and I’m not alone in this particular statement. In fact, the Dutch industry itself is more than done with the endless stream of lowbrow, romantic comedies and these, copy-paste Oscar-bait dramas.

  normally Dutch films really don't impress me much and i'm not gonna say this was a masterpiece, but definitely a valiant effort. sadly enough i expected a biographical drama with a teeny bit of romance, instead i got a dramatic romance with a tiny bit of biography. so as far as expectations go, i was a little surprised by this.
  this film has the benefit of a good story that impresses, the premise of it alone is enough to hook you in and despite really mediocre dialogue and a somewhat iffy romance, it's worth the watch. good performances by all leads, but i think we can all agree that scott turner schofield is the real star of this and he deserves all the credit.

  "The Conductor" has a few problems, like the lack of subtlety, the cheesiness in some scenes and the overall length of the movie. Nevertheless, i liked it very much and the reason why this movie still works has a name: Christanne de Bruijn. She really gives it her all and portrays the lead character with much heart and charisma. With her captivating performance as Willy, she carries this movie on her back and has just the right amount of vulnerability and bad bitch energy.

  Drawn out biopic without epic. The story is interesting, but, unluckily, the script isn't. And the director doesn't succeed in creating the necessary sense of drama. Technically fine, but emotionally empty.

  The first half of this was very slow and I felt drained by the halfway point, but then it did get quite a bit better and I was satisfied by the end. I enjoy women.
